General Provisions
Article 1
Commendation or encouragement (hereinafter referred to as “Award”) of the person who has merits for the purpose of the Society under the Regulations of the Society,
Article 3 and in relation to academic studies, shall be made in accordance with these Regulations.
Article 2
Awards shall be as follows:
a. Best Paper Award
b. Excellent Research Award
c. Young Presenter Award
Article 3
In order to search and select the candidates for the Award under the preceding Article (items a. and b.) the Selection Committee shall be established by the Society;
provided, however, that the method of search and selection shall be in accordance with the Exhibit [Method of Search and Selection by the Japanese Neural Network Society Best Paper Award and Excellent Research Award].
Article 4
Winners of the Award (items a. and b.) shall be determined by a resolution of the Board of Directors, based on the report of the Selection Committee under the preceding Article.
Article 5
Commendation certificates and so on of the Award (items a. and b.) shall be presented at the Ordinary General Meeting and at any other appropriate events.
Article 6
In order to search and select the candidates for Young Presenter Award under Article 2, item c., the Convention Selection Committee shall be established by the Society;
provided, however, that the method of search and selection shall be in the Exhibit [Method of Search and Selection of the Japanese Neural Network Society, Convention Young Presenter Award].
Article 7
Winners of the Award in item c. shall be determined by a resolution of the Convention Selection Committee under the preceding Article.
Article 8
Commendation certificates and the like for item c. shall be presented on the final day of the National Convention.
Article 9
If the presentation of each Award in items a., b., and c. have been made, the name, content, and achievements of Award winners shall generally be published in The Brain and Neural Networks to be published immediately thereafter.
Best Paper Award
Article 10
The Best Paper Award shall be presented to the authors of the particularly excellent articles from the articles published in all the journals after reading by a referee;
provided, however, that at least one article shall be selected from among the articles posted in The Brain and Neural Networks or Neural Networks.
Article11
Articles subject to selection shall be those that are published during one year by December of the previous year of the time of commendation, and at least one author shall be a Member of the Society.
Article 12
Commended articles shall generally be one or two per year;provided, however, that more articles may be selected and Awards may be presented if the Board of Directors deems it is necessary.
Article 13
If the articles to be commended are coauthored, the author who is the Member of the Society shall be commended.
Article 14
The Best Paper Award may be granted to the same author more than once.
Article 15
The Best Paper Award shall be granted a commendation certificate and award money. Award money shall be \50,000 per article.
Excellent Research Award
Article 16
The Excellent Research Award shall be presented to the authors of particularly excellent articles from the articles published at the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), Neural Computing Study Meeting.
Article 17
Commended articles shall generally be four articles a year; one article that is evaluated particularly high shall be given an Outstanding Research Award, and others shall be given an Excellent Research Award.
Article 18
Articles to be selected shall have been published during one year by December of the previous year of the time of commendation, and at least one author shall be a Member of the Society.
Article 19
If the article is coauthored, the author who is a Member of the Society shall be commended.
Article 20
If the first author of the article received an Excellent Research Award in the most recent two Awards, the author may not receive an Excellent Research Award again.
Article 21
An Excellent Research Award shall be granted a commendation certificate and award money. Award money shall be \40,000 per article for the Outstanding Research Award and \30,000 per article for the Excellent Research Award.
Young Presenter Award
Article 22
The Young Presenter Award shall be granted to a young scientist or engineer who is recognized as promising
in order to encourage academic study and technologies related to neural information science from among the persons who delivered excellent articles at the Japanese Neural Network Society, National Convention for the awarded year.
Article 23
The person who receives a Young Presenter Award shall be selected from among persons who fall under each of the following items:
1) A Member of the Society at the time of the holding the National Convention
2) Under 35 years old at the time of delivering his/her speech
3) Registered as the first author at the National Convention and delivered the speech
4) Has not received a Young Presenter Award before
Article 24
Symposiums at the National Convention and articles published at poster sessions shall be treated the same as speech articles.
Article 25
Approximately five persons shall be selected for a Young Presenter Award every year, and an Award will be presented.
Article 26
The persons who receive a Young Presenter Award shall be granted a commendation certificate and award money. Award money shall be \10,000 per person.
Supplementary Rule
These Regulations shall be in effect as of October 29, 2010.
